Donating to a charity without actually donating, is that possible? Yes, because we have done it for you. Unless you have a Maestro or Cirrus card, Mastercard Business or Commercial card because these were excluded from the campaign.

But with the support of every other Mastercard holder in the Baltics - perhaps unknowing to you - we have collected a total of €550.000, an amazing feat! This money will be donated to two charity organizations in the Baltic states. These charities devote their everyday work into preservation of natural diversity in the entire ecosystem. With this money they will focus on making the Baltic Sea a healthier one.

Sustainability is very important for Mastercard. That’s why we work hard to support the communities and environment around us. During the campaign period between 14–30 November 2022 Mastercard collected three cents for every €20 spent with a Mastercard in the Baltics. This means that every person there who used their Mastercard during this specific time, is an environmental hero! Mastercard, our partners and the Baltic Sea would like to say a massive thank you!

Why the Baltic Sea?

Our future and the future of the Baltic Sea are inextricably linked. It’s surrounded by nine countries that are home to more than 85 million people and diverse political, social and economic realities. Many of these people rely on a healthy Baltic Sea for their food and incomes, and many treasure it as an important space for nature and leisure activities.

Over the past 100 years, the Baltic Sea has degraded quite dramatically. Human pressures such as overfishing, pollution and now, increasingly, the effects of climate change are altering the ecological balance and depleting renewable resources beyond safe biological limits.

The donation

The donation amount went to two local charities: the Estonian fund for Nature and the Lithuanian fund for Nature. The money will for example be used for educational purposes on protecting endangered fish species.
